San Antonio, Texas
A trip to San Antonio can make for a great weekend away as a couple. The city is filled with different activities and places to visit as a couple. Famous for the Alamo and its river walk that winds through downtown where shops, restaurants, and bars line the walkway, San Antonio makes for the perfect romantic city getaway.
Start your trip visiting the sights and seeing the city. If you can handle the crowds and waiting in line, the Alamo is a must. (If you’re like me and can’t stand lines and crowds, it's ok to pass this up, I won’t judge you, but Texans will.) While you’re seeing the sights be sure and visit the Mission San Jose, a beautiful historic Catholic Mission. It is a National Historic Park managed by the National Park Service.
Take an afternoon to visit the Stray Grape Urban Winery while you’re in town to make your own wine together. You taste and choose the grapes you want your wine made from and Stray Grape walks you through the process of making your wine. Once made it ferments at Stray Grape for 6-10 weeks. You return, bottle your wine and label it with your custom label. Each batch makes 30 bottles which *should* last you a while and create many memories down the road.
Enjoying dinner on the river walk is a must while you’re in San Antonio – the river walk is beautiful at night. After dinner would be a good time to take a romantic walk along the lighted river walk. Or visit the Tower of the Americas, a 750-tall tower, with an award-winning restaurant and enjoy dinner while looking over the city.
Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston, South Carolina is a romantic city full of southern charm and beauty. There are plenty of things to do as a couple here and if you’re looking for a romantic getaway with your partner this might be your city – just saying.
Charleston has a vibrant historical district complete with southern architecture that makes for a romantic setting anywhere in the district. Explore the historic district from a carriage and then stop at one of the many restaurants for dinner from 82 Queen to Halls Chophouse. Then head over to The Watch Rooftop Kitchen & Spirits for drinks while looking over the city. Or take a sunset cruise from the Charleston Harbor on the Schooner Pride.
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a beautiful place to spend quality time with your partner strolling through the gardens. Selected as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel + Leisure Magazine it is the perfect place to take a romantic walk.
San Francisco, California
San Francisco, A unique city, has more romantic activities to do than can be accomplished in one weekend – even a long weekend. Activities to do as a couple range from sailing, flying, walking, shopping, sightseeing, sunset watching and many more. San Francisco really has it all and is a great place to take your significant other for a couple’s getaway.
If you have never been to San Francisco before be sure and hit up some of the typical tourist attractions and make your trip memorable. Take a ride on the San Francisco Cable Cars together and enjoy the unforgettable views together. Then head down to Fisherman’s Warf for postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, shopping and dining.
Head out to Crissy Field for a romantic walk with some of the best views of the city lighting up at sunset. Or take a sunset sail with the Adventure Cat and watch the sunset and city lights from the water together. If you’re the more adventurous type, or just like to keep your partner wowed, book a flight with Seaplane Adventures and view the city and the Golden Gate Bridge from the air with a glass of champagnes.
Portland is weird, but weird places can have some hidden gems in them. If you’re the adventurous outdoors type of couple you should consider Portland for your couple’s getaway destination. There are numerous hiking opportunities with spectacular view and waterfalls to see not far from the city – not to mention the numerous activities to do in the city.
One of the best hikes in the area and the most spectacular falls in the region, a hike to Multnomah Falls can be very romantic. Just 30 miles east of Portland the views of the falls are absolutely stunning. If the falls are little far away, a hike to the Witch’s Castle on the west side of town is surreal and can be quite the romantic walk and actually has an interesting (weird?) love story behind it. Other great hikes in the area can be found at Forest Park or The Grotto along with several other waterfalls in the area.
The Willamette Valley, of which Portland is a part, is known for their wines. What better way to have a romantic couple’s getaway than to go on a wine tour in a vintage bus? The Vintage Tour Bus offers just that and is the perfect way to start your weekend in Portland.
Portland, being what Portland is, also has several board game cafés. Sit down with your partner and hang out over a game of Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride. Powell’s City of Books is another place in the city that the right couple might find interesting. It is the largest independent bookstore in the world and if you’re a book worm you can’t go to Portland without stopping there.
If the two of you are into music, Nashville isn’t a bad destination for a couple’s getaway. With a vibrant music scene and plenty to do, you can’t go wrong.
It’s Nashville, you can’t go there without visiting the Grand Ole Opry. With live shows almost daily, you’ll have several options for shows during your getaway. Nashville’s Honky Tonk Highway also offers live music all day long. Dance the night away with your partner and enjoy the music!
Even if music is not your thing there is still plenty of other things to do in Nashville. Love Circle is a park that overlooks the city and is a great place to view the city at night with a glass of wine together. You could also view the countryside from the air in a hot air balloon with Nashville Balloon. Explore the city from a carriage ride or enjoy a river cruise with live music on the General Jackson Showboat are few other ideas for your couple’s getaway.
Couple’s getaways are very rewarding and fortunately, you can go on a couple’s getaway almost anywhere. These cities above are a few ideas for destinations to get you started on planning your couple’s getaways.
